After a bit of experimenting with mediums, I finally am moving forward some artwork, I managed to finish another two pieces. The summer heat is here in LA and it gets uncomfortable, but unlike working with ink tech pens, painting with acrylic is actually faster in this weather. Thus as mush as I dislike the heat, I can’t complain.
Above is a painting of my alter ego, Mad Monkey, this is on a craddled wood panel, that I kind of messed up by pasting paper on it, and then trying to remove it left a very sketchy uneven surface, well was sketchy for ink illustration artwork, but for acrylic it worked just fine! I’m going to move a little to bigger pieces as I progress with my art, thus on the smaller side, will have very simple designs such as this one, a 10 x 8 in.
And if you have been following my art journey, you will know that I’m very fond of glow in the dark and fluorescent paints, even my illustration style artwork on paper has often accents of these paints. I actually enjoy quite a bit the end result on this one, it really makes the speech bubble pop up! Is going to be up for grabs at my store for the following month!
I was pretty much doing this piece at the same time than the above one. The experimentation on this goes to the textures. background, bone, glassy/jelly, etc. The aiming isn’t to be realistic, but to keep a cartoon feel while still making you feel that actually exist in the real world. I was also practicing a glow effect, without airbrushing, it took some time but I am very happy with the result.
I still inking a bit, and bringing some illustration accents to my paintings, but now is just a supporting factor rather than the main part of the composition. I still want to integrate and develop lettering thus will keep looking for ways to add it, in this case it was quite simple, the whole skull is a big canvas actually, but I needed to focus and make sure that the inking part was just a “decoration”, is hard to break habits but I think I getting the hang of it.
This one too is quite fun with a UV light! This shot was from before I actually finish it. thus is missing a couple of details. It will be in my store too for the July sale. Make sure to tell your friends and also to let them know that the word ‘changuito’ (little monkey) will give them a great discount!!
As the social medias are getting too difficult to use for showing my art, I have no other option but to use my blog/newsletter for posting full new (and old at times) artwork, please share if you can, as this is now my only way of showing up my stuff.
Thank you for reading, till the next time!!
