The title of my exhibition translates into “Between fables, naked skin, and dessert” and is as literal as it can get, because those were the main components of my compositions regardless of the actual message. My artwork is stylistically a mix of Pin-up art, old fashion illustration, and comic or Manga art.
For the theme I choose fables, old tales, and a vintage movie, I guess the main message can be considered love, it is after all and contrary to what it looks, the story of the creatures, who are in love with these awesome woman characters, is true that the story of each piece is developed around the female, that’s how I construct the visual composition, but in my mind even before starting, I already thinking in the poor needy creature who wants to ‘cuddle’. Because after all, and as much as I dislike to admit it, the artwork was all about myself.
I born and grew up in Ameca, a little town in west central México, pretty much in the country side, and the available media back then was not always new. Most of my text books, comics, and a good amount of the TV was old, stuff that my parents read and watched when young. This experiences made me in part and old fashion person, and rarely, even today, I like or enjoy contemporary media. That might sound interesting but when we talk about making art, I have a huge disadvantage, is obvious that there is not a lot of people who are interested in anything but what is trendy, and thus finding an audience for my artwork is still the most difficult challenge of all.
I wanted to bring my true likes and feelings into my exhibition, and I hope that someone eventually finds it as amusing as I do. This is a homage to my youth, to my likes and joys, and ultimately a goal, to bring a smile to any one who takes a moment to appreciate my artwork.
This body of work allowed me to grow, to refine my skills and techniques over all, and I will take that as a ‘profit’ a least. A battle lost for sure, but the hopes are to win the whole “war”. Time to look ahead and hopefully the joy I feel making my artwork finds its way into the hearts of people.
Thank you for reading, till the next one!
