As usual the heavy heat arrives late August and remains through September, it makes it annoying to draw and paint with sticky hands, AC isn’t an options thus slow time it is. Non the less I have finished another painting that has giving me much more insight on the acrylics, it should get more and more interesting from here on for sure. More about this painting in the next letter.
On Sep 7th is the beginning of the ‘Memoir’ group exhibition happening online and curated by Curio Art Gallery (In Portugal), I have a piece in the show that I previewed on past letter. This is ‘Memoria’ (memory in Spanish), depicting some of my early topic influences; Sweets such as pastries and cookies have been my source of fuel since I can remember, I can easily pass days only eating sweets and will not crave savory, that’s how sweet my tooth is. The cat mask represents not only an animal that amuse me quite a bit, but here on the doughnut, is the materialization of a “creature” from my imagination that has been fueled with pastries, hence the doughnut. The ‘Saturn TV Robot’ was one of my favorite toys, was very surreal, some of my older memories are about me playing in the night and in the dark with it, it was great not only to see lights and projection of it, but the noise it made was quite a surreal experience for the child I was. The monkey is me, that’s very easy, he is thinking in the eyes of a female cartoon character, I enjoyed watching cartoons like any kid, but the anime ones were always my favorite, it is true the anime and manga have shaped in many was the type of artwork I do, thus the transition of the eyes, from what I saw to what I make. My Mom always have plants at home, and indoor plants became my “forest” environments when I used to play with my toys, and of course, there was always a Mr. Spider hanging around those plants.
The piece is available at the gallery, is a small 8 by 8 inches cradled wood panel, Acrylic paint and Acrylic ink, $195 usd
This the very first piece of my new rendering style that I have at a gallery exhibition, I considered special because of it, and although is part of a transitional set of works I’m doing this year, is still one of my favorites. Is very collectible, easy size to fit on display and affordable! tell your friends.
And of course I have some small sticker bundles in my store, they come with a mini original illustration that is random like a “blind bag/box” and six stickers!!, plus a couple of originals paintings that you can have with a discount if you are friend with this CHANGUITO (little monkey) ;)
As always, thank you so much reading, till next letter!
