The Night Maker
Last weekend was the opening of the Cannibal Flower X Thinkspace exhibition ‘The Fresh Series’. The pieces will be on display for the rest of the month. I’m happy to find out that my two pieces on the show had found new homes!
On a personal note, art wise, I consider my self very lucky that I had lived in Los Angeles in this times. Although is much more tough to make it as an artist, the art scene itself is to the reach of many who live locally. Some of the most iconic galleries and artist have emerge from here. My art journey wouldn’t be the same if I would be living somewhere else, specially with my lack of education that has always hinder me. I have been able to call some of the gallerist and artists, my friends and mentors, and the opportunities and advice they had giving me is unmeasurable in value. I wish and hope one day to do the same for those coming behind me.
Continuing with my series of “Nymphs” or aka pretty women poems, I developed this piece thinking in that bohemian mood, a great majority of people get very inspired at night, this is actually due to hormone cycles. Thus I was thinking of a demigoddess that would be the responsible for creating the night, she carries magic made out of love dreams and sets the night for the nocturnal creatures to sing their lullabies, she enjoys the rhythms of the dark and nature to thrive. The lucky-unlucky humans who get to see her, loose their soul as soon as they feel the joy of her beauty, she uses their souls to fertilize the tree spirits.
The Night Maker will be on display at the group show by Cannibal Flower at the Black Market gallery in Sawtelle, west Los Angeles, a very iconic neighborhood with a Japanese community, next to Santa Monica. For inquires please contact either of the galleries.
Like with my other paintings on my previous post, this composition is heavily influenced by soda vintage ads. And yes, for those who wonder I do “triangulate” the compositions, creating my own set of rules, is easy to create on them and I find that people seems to enjoy my paintings more (even if no clear definition of the lines). Just some behind the scenes fun facts. and you know what is also fun, a discount. use CHANGUITO for an extra percent of at my store!
Thank you for reading! Till next time.
